Privacy Policy
AfterTrip has no ads and never sells your data — to anyone, ever. The app is free to use; a one-time $2.99 purchase unlocks the ability to create trips, with no subscription and no recurring charge.
Information We Collect
- Account identity: an anonymous ID is created automatically the first time you open the app. If you choose to link an email address (for backup/recovery across devices), we store that email.
- Trip and financial data: trip names and dates, the display names of people you add to a trip, and the expenses, payments, refunds, and custom split amounts you or other trip members enter.
- Receipt photos: only if you choose to attach one to an expense (an Admin feature). If you use receipt scanning to auto-fill items, that text recognition runs entirely on your own device — the photo isn't uploaded anywhere for scanning. If you then attach the photo to the expense, it's stored as described above.
- Purchase data: a purchase token or transaction ID (from Google Play or Apple's App Store, whichever store you installed from) and its verification status, used to confirm your one-time $2.99 unlock. We never see your payment card details — Google Play Billing or Apple's In-App Purchase system handles the payment itself.
- Crash and error reports: if something goes wrong, technical details (what happened, device/browser info) are recorded against your anonymous ID so we can fix it. This is not linked to your name or the contents of your trips.
How We Use It
- To operate the app: calculating balances, syncing trips in real time between members, and showing your trip history.
- To verify your $2.99 purchase and grant Admin access.
- To send account emails (confirming your email address, sign-in links, and password resets), only if you've chosen to link an email.
- To find and fix crashes or errors.
Who We Share It With
We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run the app. None of them are permitted to use your data for advertising, and we don't sell data to anyone:
- Supabase — our database, authentication, and photo storage provider. All app data lives here.
- Resend — delivers the app's account emails (confirming your email address, sign-in links, and password resets), only if you've linked an email.
- GitHub — stores our private daily database backups (see Data Retention).
- Sentry — receives crash/error reports as described above.
- Google Play Billing / Apple In-App Purchase — whichever store you installed from processes your purchase directly; we only receive a verification token or transaction ID, never your payment details.
Data Retention
Your trip and account data is kept for as long as your account and trips exist. The one exception is receipt photos, which are removed on the schedule described under Photos below. If that changes in a future update, this policy's "Last updated" date above will change too.
We make an automatic daily backup of the app's database and keep each one for 30 days, encrypted and stored privately with GitHub, so we can recover from outages or mistakes. Photos are not included in these backups. Data you delete is removed from the live app right away, but may remain in these backups until they expire, up to 30 days later. Backups are not used for anything else.
Your Rights & Deletion
You can permanently delete your account at any time from inside the app: Settings → Delete Account. This removes your account and any trips where you're the only real member; trips with other members need those members removed, or the trip deleted, first.
Shared trips you didn't create: the other people in those trips still need an accurate record of who paid for what. So when you delete your account, your display name and the expenses and payments you were part of stay visible to them in those trips, marked as belonging to a deleted account. Your email address, sign-in details and purchase record are removed.
Photos: when a trip is deleted, its receipt and cover photos are removed from storage within 90 days. Once a trip is fully settled (everyone is paid up), its receipt photos are removed 90 days later; the trip itself, its expenses and totals, and its cover photo stay available to its members. If the trip changes and is no longer settled, that 90-day period starts over the next time it is settled.
If you've uninstalled the app and can't access the in-app flow, email interfacebroken@gmail.com to request deletion of your account and data.
Children's Privacy
AfterTrip is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
